Pokemon is a franchise that is always looking to expand its products in unexpected ways. In the 90s, it was common to see Pokemon on cups, utensils, and even diapers. Today, the reach of these creatures is even greater with mobile games, more seasons of anime, and even a stop-motion series with Netflix. Now, the Japanese company had an announcement that no one had seen coming. Pokemon’s next step in the entertainment world is a collaboration with the legendary studio, Aardman. No doubt, we will get another perspective on these unique characters.
If you are not familiar with Aardman, you probably know about some of their projects, such as the Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, and Wallace & Gromit movies. These are some of their most famous works, but there are many more, such as an episode of Star Wars: Visions – Volume 2, and even video games for consoles. So, we can be sure that this Pokemon and Aardman collaboration will bring something huge for all the fans. However, it’s too early to speculate, as the same post in the Pokemon social networks indicates that this project will arrive in 2027.
I can only imagine a series or at least a short film with a unique story, as happened in Pokemon Concierge. In this series, Pokemon moves away from its classic anime, where the protagonist must travel through a new region, make new friends, and face the championships. Pokemon Concierge has a more relatable story with a hint of a slice of life and comedy, which is more along the lines of Aardman’s stories. Either way, I’m excited to see Pokemon again on my screen in a new and unique style from this collaboration with Aardman. We will have to wait a very long time to find out what this partnership will be all about.
