Charizard isn’t going to be part of the pokédex in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but knowledgeable players can still get their hands on one. There are tons of new Pokémon coming with the new generation, but Charizard is a classic of the franchise that has a dedicated fanbase. Collecting as many Pokémon as you can is also a big part of playing each new game in the series, but players will have to do something special if they want to get Charizard, and they’ll have a limited window of time to do so. So, here is what you’ll need to know to get Charizard in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How do you get Charizard in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Players must complete one of the new Tera Raid Battles to get Scarlet and Violet Charizard. These battles will each focus on a particular Pokémon, allowing players to team up and fight for extremely powerful versions of them. However, some of them will only be available during specific time windows. If you’re looking to catch Charizard, you’ll only be able to complete its Tera Raid Battle during two periods. The first will run from December 1 to December 4, with a second open from December 15 to December 18.

To start a Tera Raid Battle, you’ll need to find and interact with crystals in the world. The color of the crystal determines what type of Tera Raid Battle players will be entered, with Charizard only being found in black crystals. During these Tera Raid Battles, up to four players can team up to fight a massive Pokémon.

During the fights, players can play actively without waiting for their teammates to make decisions, making sure the battle keeps moving quickly. The Tera Raid Battles will be pretty challenging, so you’ll need to assemble a strong team if you want to be successful. You also won’t be able to use Scarlet and Violet‘s new auto-battle mechanic and will need to be active throughout the entire battle.

You’ll also have a few options when it comes to assembling a team for your Tera Raid Battles. If you have other friends playing the game, you can set up a lobby code for them to use to find your lobby.  If you don’t have friends to team up with, you can instead randomly search for other players to battle alongside or even select to be matchmade with a random group of players to help them in their Tera Raid Battle.
