The newest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer during the August 3 Pokémon Presents has revealed news regarding the game’s story, characters, and special features.
Come November 18, players will be able to begin their journey in the vibrant Paldea region in the franchise’s first fully open world RPG experience, where they will encounter new gorgeously rendered natural environments and towering structures and meet a plentiful cast of new characters and Pokémon along their journey!
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Paldea Region, New Pokémon, and Characters
The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games will take place in the all-new Paldea region, sprawling land with tons of vast, open space to explore and a variety of gorgeous locations featuring never before seen Pokémon, according to news showcased during the Pokémon Presents showcase! Players will begin their journey in the capital city of Mesagoza, where depending on the version, they will be recruited into one of the schools as students.
Here, they will receive their own Rotom Phone with a map and tons of other convenient features and meet a colorful cast of characters. These include the director of the academy, Clavell; your friend and rival Nemona; Jacq, your homeroom teacher and an expert in Pokémon biology; Arven, an upperclassman known for his cooking skills; and Penny, a rather shy and reclusive student.
In the Paldea region, the order of events within the story can unfold however the player chooses, and they will be able to do such things as taking on the regional Gym Challenge in any order they please, along with two other grand stories that will shape their trainer journey.
One of the new Gym Leaders introduced was Grusha, a professional snowboarder whose signature partner is the brand new Ice-type of Pokémon, Cetitan, known as the Terra Whale Pokémon.
Other new Pokémon include the Paldean form of Wooper, which is a Poison/Ground type and walks on both water and land, it’s a body covered in a special film, and Fidough, a new Fairy-type dog Pokémon that has moist, elastic skin like a pastry.
The Terastel Phenomenon and Legendary Riding Pokémon
A new gameplay feature known as the Terasral Phenomenon will also be available in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, as seen in the new Pokémon Presents. This feature causes all Pokémon in Paldea to gain an appearance that makes them glow like a gemstone, as well as enhance their stats and abilities and even in some cases change their typing based on that Pokémon’s Tera Type. Players can get Tera Orbs by either touching special crystals on the environment to purchasing them at a Pokémon Center.
Up to four players can participate in Tera Raid Battles through the Tera Raid Battle option. These battle systems have a time limit and allow players to continue attacking seamlessly without having to wait for other Trainers. Players will need to use Link Codes to activate these battles, which can also be used for trading and battling at the Poké Portal.
The Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon will also join the player on their journey as riding Pokémon. They have special abilities that surpass that of normal Pokémon and are able to change their form for different modes of travel. These include Sprinting/Drive Mode, Swimming Build/Aquatic Mode, and Gliding Build/ Glide Mode. The Legendary they get will depend on the version they are playing.
