To be successful in Pokemon Unite one of the main skills you will need to develop early on is your ability to block goals for your team. After opponents have built up points by defeating wild Pokemon or members of your team, they will be targeting your goals. Protecting your goals is an essential part of defense in Pokemon Unite and will prevent the other team from easily scoring points (dunking) on you. Goals provide a great advantage to your team and you want to be able to hold onto them for as long as possible. Here’s how to block a goal in Pokemon Unite.
How to Block a Goal in Pokemon Unite
While the term ‘blocking a goal’ can sound somewhat involved, it is actually very simple. In Pokemon Unite, any attack that lands on an opposing player as they are holding ‘X’ to score in a goal counts as a block. Simply put, attack enemies that are trying to score or are standing in your team’s goals.
It should be noted that the more points a player has, the longer it will take them to score. This lag in scoring will allow you more chances to try and stop a huge dunk from happening. It is also vital to keep an eye on the minimap for both the locations and point totals of your enemies. This will help decide the best place to set yourself up for a block. It can help to play as a Ranged Attacker or Speedster as you will be able to more readily land hits on the enemy about to score.
Other Helpful Tips for Blocking
If an enemy happens to have a Score Shield then be aware that blocking them will become more complicated. A Score Shield protects a player from attacks until 5-10% of their maximum health (depending on the item level) has been done in damage. While it’s not impossible to overcome this protection, it does allow enemies with lower amounts of points a good chance to score unscathed. There are also individual moves that enemies can use to give themselves a small amount of shielding such as Wigglytuff’s Starlight Recital or Crustle’s Rubble Rouser. The enemy team defeating the boss Pokemon Drednaw will also give them shields that work in much the same way.
Finally, you should know that defeating certain boss Pokemon will allow enemies to score instantly. If the opposing team has recently defeated Rotom or Zapdos then attempting a block is essentially impossible. Wait out the instant score buff and get back to blocking afterward.
