Worry not, dear MMPR fans, the casting and screen testing process for the new Power Rangers reboot feature film is in full swing. So, prepare yourselves Rangers. It’s almost “Morphin’ Time.”
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, or MMPR for diehard fans, had its debut on Fox on August 28, 1993. It quickly became a powerhouse kid’s show complete with merchandise sales to prove its’ hype. The franchise has produced two theatrical motion pictures, distributed by 20th Century Fox. On May 7, 2014, Lionsgate announced that they would be working towards a new Power Rangers feature film. The expected release date for the anticipated film is January 13, 2017. The new Power Rangers reboot production has started the casting process. Lionsgate has selected a handful of actors to screen test for roles in the reboot film. They have also alleged that they will seek additional talent to fill roles for the production due for release in early 2017.
The film is to be directed by Dean Isrealite, and has been rumored to film in Vancouver. However, reports have yet to be confirmed about the film’s exact shooting locations. Dean Isrealite is a South African film director, writer and producer known for the time-travel adventure film Project Almanac.
The news comes as Power Rangers television series comes as its’ 800th episode airs Saturday, October 3 at 12 p.m. on Nickelodeon. Credits for the film include writers Shuki Levy, Ashley Miller, Haim Saban, and Zack Stentz. Check out the sneak peak below.
