Trends make their rounds daily on TikTok and other social media outlets, where everybody is always trying to get people interested in the next big thing. A trend that involves sprinting at high speeds in the middle of the street has caught on so friends can see how fast their friends run and time themselves against one another. Recently, a Texas woman went viral after she attempted to sprint and fell flat on the ground. The twist? She was 38 weeks pregnant. Yikes!
Nicole (@iconicole.mom on TikTok) posted her sprinting challenge video on TikTok, captioned: โPOV: You try the sprinting trend at 39 weeks pregnant and end up in the hospital.โ In the video, you hear a friend saying, โ3โฆ2โฆโ and then Nicole starts running, but immediately falls flat onto her face. You hear her shocked friend call out, โOh!โ and start running toward her to check and see if sheโs okay.
Luckily, Nicole (and the baby) were fine! As she explained, she didnโt trip but instead her legs gave out from under her when she started to run. She claims she’s been incredibly active during this pregnancy. Naturally, viewers had a lot to say about her misadventure. Because as we know, everybody knows best and has something to say about a woman and her pregnancy.
The commonly agreed-upon take was, โLetโs normalize not doing this stuff pregnantโ and that’s about as fair as you can get. But letโs face it, a lot of people will do risky things on TikTok for views. Another commenter stated, โI find it hard to feel bad, who tries to sprint 38 weeks pregnant? Idk what she expected.โ
In an updated post, Nicole pointed out that some commenters became โruthlessโ and wished ill on her by saying they hope she loses her baby or that sheโs a bad mom. Even though it may not have been the most intelligent thing to sprint while incredibly pregnant, a lot of people still exercise during their pregnancies and this doesnโt automatically make somebody a bad parent (or deserving of harm). However, behind a screen and anonymous, people will always share opinions like this when a video goes viral.
In the end, Iโm glad that Nicole and her baby are doing fine after the unexpected fall. Iโm sure she learned her lesson that doing TikTok challenges while pregnant, and choosing to post them on the internet, arenโt always the best ideas.
