The White House held a briefing for members of the media on Wednesday, but one individual might not be invited to the next conference. NBC journalist Garrett Haake was sitting in the audience listening to Press Secretary from New Hampshire Karoline Leavitt speak out against US District Judge James Boasberg. Calling Boasberg a “Democrat activist,” Leavitt claims that former President Barack Obama was the one who appointed the judge, but Haake was quick to fact-check the Press Secretary.
Karoline Leavitt began, saying, “It’s very very clear that this [Boasberg] is an activist judge who is trying to usurp the president’s authority.” She then called Boasberg a “Democrat activist” who was “appointed by Barack Obama.” She said that “it’s unacceptable” for him to “consistently show his disdain for this President and his policies.” Before she could continue, Haake caught wind of the secretary’s mistake and didn’t hesitate to correct her:
“Judge Boasberg was originally appointed by George W. Bush and elevated by Barack Obama. I just feel like I should clear that up.”
From her response, it was very clear that she was upset by his interruption by going as far as unprofessionally calling him by his first name after cutting him off. “Let me just say something to that effect, Garrett. 67% of all of the injunctions in this century have come against which President? Donald J. Trump,” she snapped back. She stated that almost all of the injunctions by partisan activists in the judicial branch against President Trump were because of “Democrat-appointed judges.”
It goes without saying that internet users found it hilarious and ironic that the White House Press Secretary had to be corrected on live TV — by a media correspondent, no less. “People publicly correcting others who are loud and wrong brings me great joy,” read the top comment on a Reddit post on the matter, with thousands of users upvoting in agreement. “There’s been far too little correction for far, far too long,” seconds another, referring to how the Trump Administration refuses to believe they’re wrong in anything they say or do. “It’s like an orgasm, but for your ears,” chimes in a third.
It’s no secret that plenty of Americans have a strong disdain for Karoline Leavitt due to her relatively loathsome behavior. “She’s really going for the title of least likable person in this administration,” remarks a Redditor. “She’s just so mean and seems to take such joy in spreading lies and being the mouthpiece for cruelty.” Another adds, “She’s the type to try and get the last word in so she doesn’t look even more stupid than she already does.”
The current administration, not to mention the President himself and his right-hand Musky man, has really created an aura of toxicity repulsive to both Americans and the rest of the world. A group of very unlikable figures, with individuals like Karoline Leavitt at the helm, definitely have made everything related to government matters even less palpable. At the very least, we can get a laugh whenever someone like the Press Secretary makes a blunder on live television.
