Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Face King Charles’ ‘Major Test’ After Royal Reunion: ‘If Anything Leaks, the Fragile Trust Will Be Rocked’

Royal test!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reunited with King Charles behind the gates of Highgrove, but staying in his good graces could depend entirely on what happened after they left. So far, the Sussexes appear to be doing exactly what Charles reportedly asked them to do: keeping quiet.

Harry and Meghan privately reunited with Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House on July 10, bringing Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet along for the family gathering. It marked the first time Charles had seen Archie and Lilibet since 2022.

‘His American life is a disaster’: Harry desperately wants to reconcile with family

There were no official photographs and almost nothing about what happened behind closed doors has made its way into the press. A month later, that silence may be more important than anything that happened during the reunion itself.

Royal expert Emily Andrews described the gathering as a “major test for the Sussexes” as reports grow that Harry and Meghan could spend considerably more time around Britain.

Some royal reporting has even characterized the possibility as a potential “reverse Megxit,” although Harry and Meghan have not announced plans to move back to the UK or return to their former roles as working royals.

Vanity Fair previously reported that Charles was “adamant” the Highgrove gathering remain private and that Harry assured his father he would not publicly discuss what happened.

“If anything leaks, the fragile trust will be rocked once again,” Andrews warned.

So far, Harry appears to have passed that test. Neither he nor Meghan has publicly revealed what was discussed, and no family photographs from inside the gathering have surfaced.

King Charles’ Privacy Test Hits an Old Royal Nerve

Charles’ reported demand carries considerably more weight after years of private royal tensions becoming public.

Harry and Meghan have openly discussed their experiences inside the monarchy through their Oprah Winfrey interview and Netflix projects, while Harry revealed considerably more about his family in his memoir, Spare.

After years of royal tensions playing out through interviews, Harry’s book, the Sussexes’ projects and a steady stream of anonymously sourced reports, the lack of details about Highgrove has become notable on its own.

Repairing Harry’s relationship with Charles may also prove easier than fixing things with Prince William. Recent royal reporting suggests William remains skeptical about reconciliation with his younger brother, and some royal watchers clearly agree.

“Stick to your guns, William,” one viewer wrote.

Another insisted, “You don’t ‘be the bigger person’ with someone who has shown malicious intentions.”

Harry is reportedly expected back in Britain for another charity engagement, potentially creating another opportunity for father and son to continue rebuilding their relationship. The Sussexes are also looking ahead to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, where reports suggest Archie and Lilibet could take part in public events and Charles may receive an invitation.

One private meeting won’t erase years of tension between Harry and the Royal Family. But if Charles wanted proof that conversations with his younger son could remain behind palace doors, a month of silence may have given him some of it.

For a couple who spent years telling their side of the royal story, their path back toward the family may now hinge on leaving one story completely untold.
