Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s chapter may be heading toward its final pages. A bombshell Daily Mail report claims the Sussexes are actively exploring a move back to Britain, nearly seven years after they slammed the palace door behind them.
According to Daily Mail columnist Alison Boshoff, a friend of the couple says Harry and Meghan are “seeking to reverse Megxit.” Boshoff reports that a return “is being contemplated in some form” and that the couple’s holiday home in Portugal will be used as a “staging post back to Britain.” Harry is understood to have stopped at the Portugal property after wrapping his UK visit earlier this month, and he is already scheduled to return to Britain in September for a charity event.
Two forces are reportedly driving the change of heart. The first is King Charles’ ongoing cancer treatment, which has Harry wanting to be physically closer to his father. The second cuts deeper: the duke has reportedly never fully settled into American life. “He has started to feel somewhat unwanted in America,” a source close to Harry said. “He realizes that perhaps the ‘American dream’ is not everything it promised to be.”
Meghan, who built her As Ever brand and Netflix presence from the couple’s California base, is said to be fully on board. “I have heard that she is very supportive of rebuilding the relationship with Harry’s British side of the family,” the source said. “She is completely in favor of it.” The insider added that “Harry’s heart has always been, and remains, in Britain.”
The secret Highgrove summit with Charles and Queen Camilla earlier this month is now being framed as the first stage of the comeback, with sources close to Harry calling the trip a “partial” success and a practice run for something more permanent. The king is also said to remain in regular contact with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Friends Admit the ‘American Dream Is Cooling’
The friend quoted by the Daily Mail painted a blunt picture of the couple’s Hollywood standing amid a downturn in their television fortunes. “They have had successes,” the source said, before adding, “But that American dream is cooling, and she feels an outcast status as well. She feels like she is trying to push fresh thoughts and projects, but it is not easy. So maybe enough water has now passed under the bridge here for some form of a return.”
Nothing has been confirmed by the Sussexes, and no timeline has been floated for any move. But the pieces are lining up in one direction: a repaired relationship with the king, a foothold property within striking distance of Britain, and a September trip already on the calendar. Whether it amounts to a full Megxit reversal or something short of it, the American exile era appears to be entering a new phase.
