Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have dealt with a lot of rumors and bad press over the years. The couple knows what it’s like to be the center of gossip and speculation. However, one of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex‘s close friends is now opening up about what the royals are really like behind closed doors when the cameras aren’t rolling. Although there are many perceptions of Meghan and Harry, their pal Bryony Gordon is sharing her experience with the pair.
Gordon wrote a piece for The Daily Mail, detailing her time with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Bryony says she met Harry in 2016 shortly before he and Meghan began dating. She says since striking up a friendship with the Duke, she’s been “peppered with questions” about his character.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Called ‘Ordinary’ By Close Friend
“I tell them my honest opinion, that he is kind, funny and pretty damn normal, all things considered, I often see a flash of disappointment cloud their faces, followed quickly by words to the effect of ‘well, you would say that, you know him,’ as if knowing someone should disqualify you from having a trusted opinion about them,” Gordon writes.
“I’ve heard a lot of fairly negative things said about him, character assassinations that bear no resemblance to the man I’ve come to count as a friend, the one who cares passionately about injured veterans, and who’s done more than most to change perceptions of mental health in this country,” she added.
Meanwhile, at home Bryony says that Harry and Meghan are “ordinary” people. They’re relaxed as their children run around and play. She also claims that Harry has constructed a DIY photo wall with photos of his late mother, Princess Diana. She also revealed that she was sent off with a batch of Meghan’s homemade jam. “They’re just doing their best,” she says.
Of course, fans aren’t convinced. Many think that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were putting on an act in front of the journalist, knowing word would get out about the visit.
“These two put on a show. Anyone would in that situation. Only those truly close to them will ever really know what they’re like at their core,” one person commented.
“Harry and The Wife’s reputations are permanently stained. No professions of love from newly found friends will change that perception,” another stated.
“A decent person does not attack his family in the way Harold did. That is exactly the opposite of the character that this person is trying to portray him as,” a third comment read.
“No one doubts that the pair can be pleasant, even charming, when they wish to be and when there will be some benefit to themselves – so I am not convinced,” a fourth person added.
It appears that it will take more than some sweet words from a journalistic friend to convince Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s strongest critics of their true colors.
