Prince Harry has been living in the United States with his wife Meghan Markle since the couple decided to officially exit the royal family. However, the youngest son of King Charles has clung to his UK roots and retained his royal title. Sadly, that may not be the case for much longer. Sources revealed to Page Six that Harry might be ready to officially ditch his title and become a full citizen of the United States.
According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, anyone who is looking to pledge their allegiance to the US must renounce any titles they previously held. “Any applicant who has any titles of heredity or positions of nobility in any foreign state must renounce the title or the position,” the policy states. “The applicant must expressly renounce the title in a public ceremony and USCIS must record the renunciation as part of the proceedings.”
Is Prince Harry Ready To Leave His Royal Roots Behind?
The outlet reveals that anyone who fails to renounce a title of position could be considered a “lack of attachment” to the US Constitution. Meanwhile, Prince Harry revealed during an interview on Good Morning America that he has “considered” becoming an American citizen along with his wife and two children, Archie and Lilibet. “The American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind but is certainly not something that is a high priority for me right now,” he admitted.
Harry is contemplating the status of his title and citizenship. However, his older brother, Prince William, is said to be busy helping their father, King Charles, with his royal duties. Charles was recently diagnosed with cancer. As the next in line to the throne, William has allegedly been picking up the slack. One insider tells In Touch that William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are now preparing to become the next King and Queen much sooner than they originally anticipated.
Will Prince Harry give up his title just as William is given a new one? Only time will tell what the future holds for the royal brothers. However, it appears that they are on very different paths.
