Five years after fleeing his royal family and losing all military merits, Prince Harry has cause to regret his decision, with Kate Middleton and King Charles’ health woes playing on his guilt. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the shocking decision to quit their duties as senior royals and relocate to the United States in 2020. The prince attributed their decision to the “hardships” his American bride underwent during her royal stint, which necessitated the tough choice. However, a lot has changed since then.
Aside from falling out of favor with the America that once welcomed them with open arms, Harry’s royal family has faced turmoil in recent times, burdening his brother, Prince William. At a time like this, Harry’s assistance in lifting the weight off his brother would have come in handy. However, having relinquished his royal privileges, military status, and responsibilities to the UK, stepping in at this point is an unlikely move from Prince Harry. The knowledge of this has the exiled rethinking his past decisions.
Prince Harry’s Regrets Over Leaving Royal Life Explained

Speaking to Fox News, the British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard claimed the 40-year-old felt remorseful about his choices and the manner he handled his UK exit. The expert noted that Harry would especially feel regretful because the service part of the British royal family was all he ever knew. By implication, Prince Harry would most certainly miss such aspects of his former life, most notably, “the military culture and the family unity.” Chard claimed,
“When it comes to regrets, [the Duke and Duchess of Sussex] would be inhuman if they didn’t feel slight regrets surrounding how they handled departing the U.K. to pastures new.”
Additionally, Chard believes Prince Harry also regrets the falling apart of his “fun and special relationship” with Kate Middleton, which has taken a nose dive since his exit from the royal family. He especially regretted their strained relationship after learning of Kate’s cancer diagnosis, and being unable to stand by her during what William described as their toughest year yet.
Meghan May Regret Her Would-Have-Been Royal Future

The broadcaster attributed this fallout to Prince Harry’s smear campaign against his family via channels like his memoir, Netflix documentary, and the explosive Oprah Winfrey Interview. Unlike Prince Harry, though, the Duchess of Sussex may feel only “a little regret” about her decision, but not for the same reasons as her husband. Chard divulged,
“Meghan may wonder about what things could have been, but I believe she doesn’t look back, is resolute with her decisions, and has little regret as she is not British. She doesn’t have heartfelt ties to the royal family. She couldn’t wait to get away!”
Chard’s remarks come amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s “fall from grace” in the United States. Countless turmoils have trailed the couple’s post-royal lives, including failed Hollywood ventures and canceled deals with showbiz giants, bullying allegations, and Harry’s visa row. Most recently, Harry finds himself caught up in a brawl with Sophie Chandauka, the chairwoman of Sentebale, a charity he founded in 2006, alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. The Zimbabwe-born lawyer accuses Harry of harassment and bullying following his resignation as patron of the charity. Although the exiled prince is yet to hit back, this latest blow further intensifies the vitriol trailing Harry and Meghan since Megxit.
