Prince Harry is making a return to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert after appearing on the program back in January 2023. The episode was said to have made record numbers in viewership, according to Deadline, competing with the numbers from when Barack Obama was a featured guest three years prior. Keeping a low profile has been the last thing on Harry’s mind as he’s been going from appearance to appearance since his visit to the UK earlier this year. And The Late Show will certainly be one of his biggest.
To promote the featured ex-royal guest, the official colbertlateshow TikTok posted a video of Harry and Colbert having a comical dialogue. The late-night show host is asked what he would want if he were treated like a king for a day. Colbert said he’d like Harry to “bake” for him, intentionally saying the word to sound like “beg.” The Spare author then guffaws at the joke, wrapping up the video.
Clearly, fans are excited for this special appearance. “They could never make me hate him 🤣,” reads one comment. “Definitely my favorite of the royals,” reacts another. Others also brought up the sad fact that “this side” of Harry, his comical and humorous side, hasn’t really been on display since he married Meghan Markle and got tied into the Megxit controversy. “I truly miss this version of Harry,” says one viewer.
Critics Call Out Harry for Going Back on His Desire to ‘Be More Private’
And of course, critics also voiced their distaste for Harry appearing on The Late Show; “So much for privacy…” remarks a user. Harry has been known to claim he wants to avoid too much attention, but it’s usually in relation to his private life and family. Recently, a report even claimed that Harry is tired of Meghan using his two children as marketing tools for her brand and image. As for his personal publicity and image as royalty, Harry has not shied away from the spotlight in the slightest.
“It’s so nice of Harry to check in before Stephen loses his show,” one Redditor remarks, referring to when Colbert will unfortunately be retiring from his show come May 2026. The show’s viewership is going fairly well at the moment, with the Late Nighter reporting the numbers have been up by around 20-ish percent since the last quarter. Yet, there’s no doubt that Colbert’s team knows this and will more or less use Harry to possibly boost the views even higher, if the Prince’s previous appearance was anything to go by.
It will be interesting to see what Prince Harry might reveal during the show’s episode, as countless fans and critics are always eagerly anticipating what sort of ‘royal tea’ the Prince is going to spill next.
