Prince Harry‘s past relationship with Cressida Bonas reportedly went south following his horrid outburst at an elderly man looking to fulfill his dying wife’s Christmas wish. Before Meghan Markle, Harry had other highly publicized relationships, including one with actress Cressida, whom he dated on and off from 2012 to 2014. Things turned sour for good after the prince revealed an ugly side of himself to his then-girlfriend while enjoying a Christmas date at a pub in 2013, at least according to one royal author.
In her best-selling book The Palace Papers, Tina Brown recounted this incident, which supposedly took place at a pub in Kidlington, right outside Oxford per The Mirror. According to her, Prince Harry, who spent Christmas that year with Cressida Bonas’ half-sister and some other relatives decided to have the launch at the pub on the fateful day. Having secured a table at a hidden spot at the pub, the couple enjoyed a relatively peaceful date.
Prince Harry Storms Out of Pub After Snapping at Fan on Christmas
Right before exiting the establishment, an elderly man approached the prince to make a familiar request. Only this time, it came from a place of love and selflessness. Tina wrote in the book,
“Suddenly, as they were leaving, this quite elderly, sweet-looking gentleman came out and said: ‘Oh, sir, so sorry, I know it’s Christmas time, but could I just take a photograph to give to my wife who isn’t well?”
According to Tina, Cressida quickly gave the elderly man the green light to fulfill his wife’s Christmas wish. However, Prince Harry shocked her with his outburst, rudely dismissing the man’s Christmas request and storming off angrily. She recounted,
“And so Cressida opened her mouth and said: ‘Oh, of course.’ And Harry said: ‘Get out of my way,’ and went bright red in the face and stormed off in a huff.”
Tina claimed the incident spearheaded a series of relationship troubles leading up to their split just weeks later. Since revealing the unpleasant encounter, royal enthusiasts, fueled by the unforgiving tabloids, have continued to rehash it every Christmas as if commemorating the anniversary of Harry’s most heinous act. Notably, Prince Harry has never referenced this incident or addressed the allegations of his horrific Christmas outburst at an elderly man. However, it isn’t exactly the only report questioning his attitude towards others or portraying him as arrogant.
Harry and Meghan’s Bullying Allegations Further Fuel the Pub Story
The Duke of Sussex, who earned himself the “royal bad boy” reputation in his younger years has been described with words like “unpredictable,” “arrogant” and “a toxic influence” on occasions. Prince Harry alongside his wife Meghan Markle has also made headlines over allegations of bullying from royal staffers who have attended to them at various points. Despite the couple’s continuous denial of these bullying claims, previous staff and anonymous sources have continued to point fingers at them, further soiling their public reputations.
If their alleged bullying tendencies weren’t damning enough, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s struggle to retain employees even in their non-royal establishments has been deemed as proof of their “difficult personalities.” This, coupled with the recurring reminder of his alleged outburst at a helpless fan every year at Christmas, makes it a difficult task to prove himself as anything but that, even for a Prince.
