Princess Eugenie has picked sides with her father, the Duke of York Prince Andrew, amid the royal Christmas celebrations. She was a no-show at the royal Christmas carol due to the tension between the royals and her parents. The Princess’ solidarity with Prince Andrew has reportedly put her in a dicey position with her sister, Princess Beatrice. Sources close to the place confirmed Eugenie refused to participate due to feeling disconnected from the family. According to the Insider:
“Officially, Eugenie stayed behind to be with her mom and dad, but truth be told, she wasn’t very welcome.”
It has also beeing speculated the princess’ move has connections with the exiled Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, her sister Beatrice did not follow in her shoes as she even made changes in plans to show up. Per In Touch, Beatrice and Eugenie have tried to settle the conflict between King Charles and their father. A source close to the family confirmed that they approached the King to “forgive Andrew” and “to mend fences.”
The conflict began with Prince Andrew’s scandal over three years ago involving his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. He was also accused of abusing a teenager, a case in which he settled one Virginia Giuffre $12 million. Despite the Duke of York’s insisting he was innocent, the King and Queen ordered him to step down as a working royal.
Eugenia reportedly felt her “dad’s getting a raw deal,” and the royals know her stance. The 34-year-old has kept things very open on where her loyalty lies and spent the summer with the Sussexes. Eugenia and Prince Harry’s relationship has remained cordial despite his and Meghan’s exit from the palace.
Her friendship with the Sussexes has also come under scrutiny and created a distrust between her and the family. As for Beatrice, neutrality is her defense. We shared that a source claimed he has not stopped depending on his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and his daughters. Prince Andrew has also shown that he desperately needs their emotional support. His immediate family luckily sees his perspective, but they also find him leaning on them parasitic.
The insider shared that his wife and daughters feel like they have their lives to live. The trio also reportedly confessed that navigating the very public scandal has been unbearable. Sarah has mainly borne the brunt of her association with Prince Andrew, who bombarded her with requests for advice. The Prince also constantly asks her to hook him up with potential investors for his business.
His immediate family is not the only thing he is unwilling to leave behind; the Royal Lodge also stays. Robert Hardman, author of Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story, addressed the issue. Hardman explained that a source confirmed the Prince’s social life was done since the scandal. The source added that he is also very devoted to the home and “likes being there.”
Prince Andrew reportedly signed a lease for the lodge in 2003 but was nearly evicted on the King’s orders. The King also stopped him off security and monthly allowance, but he insisted on staying back at the lodge. However, the 30-room Royal Lodge is reportedly due for some upgrades and repairs. Given Prince Andrew’s current financial situation, the possibility of making that happen looks bleak.
