Good-natured and decent human beings will stop at nothing to protect those around them. We’ve been seeing a major pushback with protestors out and about, and calling out ICE when they see them. A New York council member shared a video of protestors coming together to put a stop to ICE’s nonsense in their neighborhood. You just love to see a community stand up for one another in these tense times.
Tiffany Caban shared her video on TikTok, captioned “We are blocking ICE vans from kidnapping our neighbors,” which pans around to see a large grup standing and sitting together in front of a building in New York. They hold up signs that say things like, “ICE out of NY” and “Pass NY For All” as they sign and congregate together. Tiffany, a council member in New York, doesn’t personally stand for ICE barging into her neighborhood. She stated, “As an elected official, it is my duty to protect my constituents from cruelty and violence. ICE is cruel and violent.”
What’s scary is Tiffany goes on to say ICE is currently kidnapping residents in New York. From there, they take them to “for-profit detention camps” or, in other words, detention facilities paid for by the government. The Trump administration is desperately trying to expand immigration detention, despite the failing Alligator Alcatraz.
Tiffany points out New York immigrants have been at risk since the very beginning. She says, “ICE has terrorized over three thousand New Yorkers this year.” They are being held in the worst possible conditions with a lack of medicine, food, or clothing. Tiffany ends her video by stating, simply, “Abolish ICE.”
It’s very simple: The way we treat other humans in America needs to change. One commenter urged Tiffany to never “let division win.” They went on to say, “In unity, we find strength to change the world,” and she’s right. Empathy must be extended past the borders of your home to make the world a better place.
Another person stated, “Thank you beautiful people! Immigrants have helped in times of need, like hurricane tragedy, wildfires, floods, pay taxes, contribute with economy. Why the hate? Why?” It’s so encouraging to see more and more people link arms and push back against this obvious example of racism.
