In a recent stream, famous journalist and leaker Tom Henderson stated that Sony will be releasing a new piece of hardware before the rumored PS5 Pro model. Henderson discussed the cancellation of E3, lower-than-expected PSVR2 sales, and rumored PS5 Slim/Pro models during the stream. He then went on to Twitter to further explain that this new hardware has not been reported on yet.
Henderson said, “I’ll be able to talk about it more in detail later but there’s also a new piece of Sony hardware that will be released before the Pro.” He confirmed that it was no simple April Fools’ joke and that Sony has more hardware coming than what has been reported.
Later in the stream, Henderson discussed the possibility of a price drop for the current PS5 model when the new hardware is released. He said he did not believe that Sony would drop the price. He also mentioned that it would be interesting to see how the competition would react to the announcement of the new hardware, making it sound like it isn’t what we might expect.
New Sony Hardware to be Released Before PS5 Pro
Henderson’s claims are intriguing, but it is important to note that they have not been confirmed by Sony. So far, he has claimed that Sony will be announcing a PS5 Pro model alongside a new model with a detachable disc drive, PlayStation Earbuds, and a new line of PlayStation headsets. Of course, Sony has not confirmed any of these claims, and probably will not in the future either. Any official announcements have not been made either.
In conclusion, Henderson’s claims about the new Sony hardware are interesting, but they should be taken with a grain of salt until Sony confirms them. Considering the sales of the PS5, and also considering how almost every single game on the PS5 is cross-gen with the PS4, the PS5 Pro makes zero sense both for consumers, and the company. The PS5 has been in the wild for over 2 years now, yet the number of exclusive titles available on the system can be counted on two hands, making the PS5 Pro seem like an unnecessary addition to Sony’s lineup of consoles.
