Just last year, PlayStation 5 has been experiencing a drop in sales. It was reported around Q2 of 2022 that the famous gaming console received a decline during those months. However, Sony can now stand proudly because the PS5 sales skyrocketed in the month of February.
PS5 sales increased by 457%
The famous PS2 has held this record for a few years now. But the PS5s burgeoning sales overtook the old console. In fact, the current-gen console’s sales increased 457% year on year after only selling 65,772 in February 2022. In fact, the PS5 sold more consoles in Japan last month alone compared to the first four months of 2022.
Here are the total hardware sales for the PS5 in Japan, the US, and Europe for the month of February:
- Japan: 367,030
- Europe: 426,336
- US: 550,107
Looking at the stats, the PS5 still holds a strong grasp in the US market, garnering a whopping 550,107 consoles sold in just a month. In terms of game sales, Hogwarts Legacy is still the most bought game for the PS5 in Q1 of 2023. Now it is still unclear what Sony is currently planning to do. The increase in PS5 sales is a good thing. But one thing is certain; the Japanese conglomerate will try to retain this trend.
A user from ResetEra stated that this was the Pedro Pascal effect, which can be attributed to the recently released HBO series “The Last of Us” based on the PlayStation video game with the same name. To make it more exciting, there are talks that a PS5 Pro is currently in the works with an expected release date of 2024. There is no confirmation on the side of Sony about the upcoming PS5 Pro. But one thing is sure; many people are awaiting the release of the Pro version of the popular console.
