Full Moon Features, headed by B-Movie master Charles Band, is gearing up for a new installment of the long-running Puppet Master series. Entitled Puppet Master: Axis Termination, the new film would be the conclusion of the Puppet Master “Axis” series that began with Puppet Master: Axis of Evil in 2010. It was followed with Axis Rising in 2012. The full announcement can be found on Full Moon’s Facebook page, but fans can expect an IndieGoGo campaign starting next week to raise funds for Axis Termination.
The series released its first installment in 1989, no doubt riding the coattails of the other killer toy franchise – Child’s Play. Whereas Chucky and the Child’s Play franchise achieved a pretty high level of mainstream success, the Puppet Master franchise boasts itself as the “most successful independent direct to video horror franchise of all time.” The “Axis” trilogy takes place during World War II and features many of the original puppets battling Nazis (both of the human and puppet variety). The Nazi puppets, just like the series mainstays, are uniquely themed and have names like Blitzkrieg, Bombshell, and Kamikaze.
Although Full Moon Features have had other direct to video franchises, such as Subspecies, Killjoy, and The Gingerdead Man (the first one starred Gary Busey), the Puppet Master franchise has always been their most well-known franchise. Puppet Master: Axis Termination will be the eleventh film in the series, and will be directed by Charles Band himself. Even though fundraising has not even begun through Indiegogo yet, the film is expected to be released in early 2016. For now, Full Moon Features has released a sneak peak at a movie poster for Axis Termination. Check it out below:
