Queen Camilla has a busy schedule with her royal duties. When she’s not visiting local spots in London, she and husband King Charles often travel to other countries. Accompanying her on the outings is an entourage to help keep things running smoothly. One particular member of the group has a unique task that involves the bathroom.
Whether she’s visiting a school, hospital, or a charity event; the Queen is often busy chatting with guests and organizers, and taking photos. But when nature calls, she has to excuse herself and calls upon her top lady-in-waiting for help.
According to RadarOnline, Camilla’s assistant, dubbed “Keeper of the Queen’s lavatory,” ensures that the bathroom is safe for her Royal Highness’ use.
Among her tasks is including that the restroom “isn’t used before or immediately after Camilla’s paid a call.”
That’s to make sure devotees of the Queen don’t sneak in and try and pinch a piece of used tissue or in case Camilla loses any personal items when she visits the bathroom.
Royal Expert Says Queen Camilla’s Bathroom ‘Companion’ is Common
Ladies-in-waiting or companions as they’re now called are common with royal females. Their job consists of various assignments including managing the Queen’s schedule, helping with her wardrobe, and attending events. Although bathroom detail wasn’t always one of their tasks, it’s become quite common according to royal expert Brian Hoey.
”It is vital that before any royal visit, the companion goes on a ‘recce’ visit to spy out the land – for one special reason,” he explained. “She has to make sure there is a suitable lavatory available for her boss, and for her use only.”
Hoey says that Lady Katharine ‘Kate’ Brooke is the one assigned to the bathroom duties. It’s not an “embarrassment” for Kate since she’s “accustomed” to this type of work. Her mother is Lady Susan Hussey, the former long-serving companion for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
When the time comes for Camilla to visit the lavatory, Kate springs into action. “She discreetly guides her in the right direction and then stands guard outside the door, making sure nobody else tries to use the royal facilities. Before or after.”
For some people, it might not be an ideal job, but for Kate she’s ready to help Queen Camilla whenever duty calls.
