Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary. The couple tied the knot on May 19, 2018, in a ceremony watched by millions of people. Onscreen, it was portrayed as a happy occasion, but behind the scenes, there was drama. One of the issues behind palace doors was Queen Elizabeth’s disapproval of the bride’s dress choice.
Queen Elizabeth Believed Meghan Markle’s Dress Was ‘Too White’
The public was anxious to see what Markle would wear for her wedding. The Duchess of Sussex kept it simple yet elegant with a white, long-sleeved dress by Clare Waight Keller. Prince Harry smiled as he saw his blushing bride walk down the aisle.
While Harry thought his wife looked beautiful, Markle’s dress received mixed reactions. One person who wasn’t a fan of the dress was Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth.
According to Daily Mail, royal author Ingrid Seward reveals in a new book that the late monarch was concerned about Markle’s wedding dress. A close friend told the author that Elizabeth thought the dress was “too white.”
In the book, Seward wrote:
In the monarch’s view, it was not appropriate for a divorcee getting remarried in church to look quite so flamboyantly virginal.
Markle was previously married to film producer Trevor Engelson from August 2011 to February 2014.

Prince Harry Unable To Hide Discomfort With Meghan Markle’s Hug at Event Amid Divorce RumorsAside from the dress, Seward also claims that Elizabeth worried about her husband Prince Philip attending the ceremony. Philip had hip replacement surgery five weeks earlier and she was concerned all the walking would impact his recovery. But Philip didn’t let anything deter him from missing Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
Another claim Seward made is that Elizabeth was uncomfortable with Prince Charles walking Meghan down the aisle. The Suits actress’ father Thomas Markle was set to do the honors, but was shunned after he staged paparazzi photos.
Despite the drama behind the scenes, Harry and Meghan’s wedding went as planned. After six years of marriage and two kids, they’re still going strong.
