Unfortunately, people living in the United States of America are living in fear of others both recording them and reporting them to authority figures. Whether these authority figures be ICE agents, police officers, or anyone else in that realm, the age of recording someone can be incredibly harmful. A man in Rohnert Park, California, learned first-hand just how harmful recording someone and being racist to them can be. Of course, it didn’t end up being as dangerous for the victims than it was for the racist man himself, especially after the confrontation went viral.
The above video showcases different neighbors in Rohnert Park in California arguing with one another. At first, the person recording was filming an altercation between a man named Daniel Garber and a black delivery driver in a white sedan. Apparently, the man in the white sedan was driving erradically, which caught the attention of a woman walking her unleashed dog on the same street. That’s when her son, Garber, decided to confront the man driving. Things got rather heated, with Garber making threats that he would likely follow through on. At this, one commentator in the replies stated, “The casual “I’ll kill you” is especially concerning here.“
After deliberations, the commotion was hearb by a neighbor who was washing his car. Likely because of the increse in tension surround different races, the man stopped washing his car and instead began recording the commotion from his phone. After the altercation ended, the man continued to record Garber and his mother’s erratic behavior until finally, the mother noticed the phone. Despite her son stating that he didn’t care that he was being recorded, he approached the man anyway and began his racist tirade once more.
This time, however, Garber took it upon himself to trespass onto the property, looking through the hispanic man’s garbage and even recording his backyard. Apparently, this was done because both Garber and his mother do not approve of the way the hispanic man’s family pulls their trash cans to the curb.
After the event took place, a Democratic news outlet followed up with Garber’s family, who apologized for his behavior, saying, “My mouth got me in trouble.” However, it is possible that this statement was exclusively made because the video ended up going viral, making him easily identifiable in the Rohnert Park, California area. While I would like to think that he won’t be the star of any more racist clips, I get the feeling we may be seeing more of him.
