‘Racist’ Caucasian BMV Employee in Indiana Shamelessly Discriminates Against Latina Woman: ‘Since All the Immigrants Aren’t Coming Anymore It’s Much Easier for Us’

Is discretion not a thing anymore?

With the current administration’s decisions and ICE activity at an all-time high, it feels like many people act like discrimination is now okay or something. That said, a Latina woman was at the BMV in Indiana to complete her registration and struck up a conversation with the Caucasian lady assisting her. After being asked if there were any changes at the BMV since the new governor, the worker’s face lit up. “Everything is so much better now for us since all the immigrants aren’t coming anymore; it’s much easier for us!” she exclaimed happily.

“Um excuse me?? Mind you I am LATINA my name my features, I look Hispanic,” the woman responded in her head. However, she remained quiet as the BMV employee repeated her comment about immigrants no longer coming to the office. “I just couldn’t believe how ignorant she was towards me,” the Latina woman said sadly. In a post on Reddit, she vented her frustration about the blatant discrimination she experienced:

“Not all immigrants are illegal and not all immigrants are bad the way Trump’s administration is making it seem!! UGH! I hate the BMV seriously…. Such unprofessional people.”

Fortunately, plenty of Reddit users in the comment section were very sympathetic to the woman and criticized the way the employee treated her. One person claiming to be an ex-branch worker for the BMV said, “We were told that there’s no reason we need to be talking about things like that and bringing up politics as it’s unprofessional and can definitely cause issues, whether we agree or not. It’s completely unnecessary and causes a lot of discomfort.” In other words, the employee went directly against the Bureau’s policy just to express her personal disdain for immigrants.

As I mentioned at the start, one user explains how people feel some sort of entitlement to discriminate against others these days: “There was a time when racists knew it was wrong, or at least that society thought so, and stayed mostly silent. Trump has shown them that racists win, that they no longer have to be silent. One emboldened racist brings others on board.” Hopefully, the Latina woman puts in a complaint against the employee so they know to hold their tongue the next time they feel their racist urges come up again.
