Comedians tend to focus on a particular type of comedy to ensure their audience is always laughing. However, there are times when you need to read your audience and understand that maybe you aren’t for them. One comedian was performing on stage as an opener for Morgan Jay in Austin, Texas, and things very quickly got out of control. Before long, there were racist and sexist remarks being thrown around, and ultimately, he was booed off the stage not even 15 minutes later.
The above video was taken at a Morgan Jay show at The Farout Lounge in Austin, Texas, and features comedian William Montgomery on the stage. You can also see that he is accompanied by a gentleman who is being escorted off-stage and out of the venue. However, what isn’t shown is exactly why that man was on-stage: he was telling Montgomery that he was garbage.
According to the video’s caption, Montgomery was being incredibly sexist, calling women degrading names various times throughout the course of his time on stage. After his jokes failed to make the audience laugh, he reportedly started to get “uncomfortably racist” before finally being booed off-stage.
Comedian Gets Booed Off-Stage During Austin, Texas Show
Just before being booed off the stage, a man in the audience decided to climb up and tell him exactly how he felt. After the man had been removed and taken elsewhere, you can hear Montgomery yelling, “Get him out of here. Get him out of here!” Eventually, the camera turns to focus on Montgomery, where he immediately points at a woman and calls her a degrading term.
Commentators were quick to jump into the comments and condemn Montgomery’s actions, with one of the top comments saying, “who thinks this guy is funny?” According to other comments, this type of comedy is typical of him, with another person explaining, “Im a huge fan of William Montgomery and even I can say with confidence that this was an incredibly cringey performance 😬 not only was this the wrong crowd but he didn’t even have jokes this time he just berated the audience and made the entire venue uncomfortable.“
With this, it becomes clearer that the original poster’s observations were not unfounded. The video does not show him being removed from the stage, but it was reportedly not even 15 minutes after taking it. Regardless of whether or not the set was a joke, it’s clear that he didn’t understand the audience in front of him, causing the crashout.
