A man was caught on camera making racist remarks in Lombard, Illinois. The individual was later arrested by local police, and the video recorded by his latest victim quickly gained traction online.
The original video was posted by the victim of the incident, Ahmed Khan, on his personal Instagram profile, where it garnered over 1,200 comments. Due to its popularity, it eventually made its way to Reddit’s r/KarenGoBrr, where stories of public freakouts are often shared.
The footage shows a White man spitting at Khan, calling him Iranian, and making racist remarks. According to Khan, he was ordering cookies for his wife when the seemingly intoxicated man confronted him. He tried to ignore him, but the man blocked his way out of the shop and began making anti-Islamic, racist remarks, as seen in the video.
Khan explained in his original post that the man even tried to push him when he returned to his car. He also claimed that the man, identified as Justin, was a “known menace” in the area. Justin Ward has reportedly been arrested and is facing a felony hate crime charge, as well as an aggravated battery charge.
Internet Criticizes Lombard’s Racist Man
On social media, most folks expressed solidarity with Khan: “My heart is with you and your community, far and wide. We will not tolerate this.” A seemingly Muslim man praised his calm behavior, saying, “Your patience was tested during Ramadan. You passed. You’ll be rewarded. I would’ve had to take this test over again.”
Others slammed the racist man, claiming that “he sure ran away like a coward at the end there.” Another person wrote, “He looks like a parody of a racist, or maybe a poster boy for racism.” Someone else commented, “I love how he is now charged with two felonies. I saw his mugshot on Facebook. I hope he has the days behind bars that he deserves.”
As racism continues to be a major issue in the United States, many commenters were at least relieved to learn that the man was reportedly arrested by local police and will face consequences for his actions.
