Believe it or not, some gamers are showing efforts not to play with the gamepad. Using a gamepad could be hard for someone who just bought a console, and online FPS games aren’t good choices for that part of the gamer. Especially in realistic and more complex console games such as Rainbow Six Siege and Warzone, some players try to connect a mouse and keyboard using third-party adapters. The consoles don’t let users play with anything without a gamepad, but the expensive third-party solutions are converting the keyboard and mouse commands into gamepad commands, and the console security is being bypassed. Fortunately, Ubisoft takes its own action to fight against the cheaters using a keyboard and mouse on Rainbow Six Siege; called MouseTrap.
Rainbow Six Siege Launches ‘MouseTrap’ On Consoles
“On consoles, mouse and keyboard players now get a penalty that adds lag to their inputs,” a preview of this new feature said in the patch notes for Tuesday’s update. “Continued use increases the lag over several matches, increasing fairness by removing their unfair advantage by making it harder to aim and shoot. Completing matches with a controller gradually reduces the lag back to normal.”
The MouseTrap firewall can’t directly detect the cheaters by the equipment connected. That’s because the cheating hardware identifies itself as a gamepad. The method is scanning suspicious activity, like movements that can’t be done with a gamepad. Catching the cheaters is still difficult, but we will wait and see how Ubisoft’s MouseTrap will perform.
The developers also note that the higher-skill group players will be scanned more often. That makes sense because the aim is ending unfair matches, and it’s meanless trying to stop players from playing already bad enough. Also, we hope to see similar solutions from all the online FPS game makers for the consoles.
