Gizelle Bryant is a woman of many talents: a reality star with appearances on The Real Housewives of Potomac and Love Hotel, a businesswoman, and a podcast creator. However, one of her business ventures has landed her in hot water, legally speaking, as she has found herself in a lawsuit with rapper Eminem over the name of her podcast.
Anyone who is a fan of Eminem will know that he goes by the nickname Slim Shady, and he has for decades. In 2024, he laid claim to the name again when he released his album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). But does this mean the word “shady” is off limits for everyone else? It would seem so, as Bryant named her podcast Reasonably Shady (which she created with her Real Housewives cast member, Robyn Dixon).
Why Is Eminem Suing A Real Housewives Star?
The issue between Bryant and the “Without Me” rapper began in 2023, when she and Dixon found themselves in the midst of a trademark dispute regarding the name, as reported by People. In a recent interview with the publication, Bryant shared her thoughts on the situation. “I find it to be foolishness. I want it to be over, for sure,” she said.
“Reasonably Shady, it’s still up and running,” she said. “And we’re like 10 million downloads strong in our fifth season.” The success of the podcast has also led to merchandising opportunities and a large fan following on social media. On Instagram alone, the duo has over 79,000 followers. They also celebrated their 10 million downloads with a post, which attracted attention from fans who praised their achievement.
Bryant’s business is doing well, despite the possible backlash. Now, she is waiting for Eminem to be deposed, and she confirmed the lawsuit is still ongoing. “We’re at the tail end, but you have to understand, it’s like a Patent and Trade issue, and they have their own timeline for when it’s over,” she said. “So we’re on their timeline.”
It’s safe to say that the music played in her home is not Eminem, and in her interview, Bryant confirmed that if one of his songs comes on the radio, her daughters turn it off (she’s a mom to three girls: Grace, Adore, and Angel).
“Oh my God, no. And it’s funny, because if it comes on the radio, in the car, my kids would be like, ‘That’s Eminem. Turn it,’” she revealed. “My kids are on top of it. They know. No, no Eminem for us.”
It’s an unfortunate situation, but one that will hopefully be resolved for all involved parties sooner rather than later.
