A Texas woman asks for advice when her therapist accuses her of “devaluing her.” The video addresses these accusations, which include withholding information, not being vulnerable, not telling the truth, and not booking more sessions. She has been with the therapist for four years and doesn’t list any previous issues. The therapist has helped the Texas woman navigate a lot of heavy stuff, primarily from when her father went to prison and her divorce. The video has reached thousands of viewers, who have liked and commented, raising concerns.
The therapist contacted her with claims that “for the last eight months, she [has felt] devalued.” Additionally, she claims the Texas woman has shown an avoidance of vulnerability, defensiveness, and a lack of honesty. The woman explains that her first reaction was that she was in trouble. The examples the therapist gives include an incident where she called after a session. This call was to inform the woman that her then-spouse wasn’t right for her. At the time, the woman says, “I felt like that was a decision I needed to make.” In the follow-up video, she explains feeling uncomfortable, and that the therapist told her that “she [personally] can’t move on from this.”
Another situation the Texas woman brings up is when she informed the therapist about the breakup. She claims the therapist said, “And that’s just something you did all on your own, right?” Though she feels she accomplished this alone, she claims she didn’t discount the therapist’s help. She says that in that moment, “it made me feel like I was doing therapy wrong.” The therapist also took issue with her not mentioning important things, such as moving out, that she considered living with a boyfriend, and that she sometimes consumed caffeine drinks and gummies. Another issue was that the woman cut back from four sessions to two because she couldn’t afford it.
Thousands Point Out Red Flags To Texas Woman
After the video was posted, thousands took to the comments with concerns. One comment points out that what was said is “not normal for a therapist to say.” Another agrees, “This behavior is completely unacceptable from a therapist.” Another says, “This is not acceptable; it’s not your job to make her feel valued.” Many are also uncomfortable with the therapist calling the Texas woman after a session ended. One says, “Even the phone call to say your ex wasn’t for you wasn’t appropriate.” Another wants her to know, “Your therapist has major boundary issues, but that doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong.”
The video quickly caught the attention of thousands, including many therapists, who voiced concerns. The comments have made her feel like she wasn’t crazy for feeling shocked or confused. After reading these, the Texas woman explains that she talked to her therapist following the accusations to discuss taking a break.
The two have agreed to part ways. The Texas woman will be searching for a new therapist, though she has not disclosed any plans.
