The Switch 2‘s reveal hasn’t even cooled yet, and a Reddit user may have already identified a problem. U/salesmunn shared a post circling what appears to be a protruding connector, identifying it as a possible fail point. Although the weakness of the connector is pure speculation at this point, anyone with kids or rowdy animals can see why it’s a reason for concern. Having fragile parts is a risk. Having fragile parts protrude is an even bigger one. It’s easy to imagine an accidental bump or jostling causing the entire thing to break, requiring the unit’s repair or even replacement. Did Reddit Find a Fatal Weakness in the Switch 2?
Fears of technical malfunctions are probably the last thing Nintendo wants people thinking about today. Given that u/salesmunn’s post has already received over 25k upvotes, this train couldn’t see the station with binoculars. A comment by fellow Reddit user u/Ace0spades808 broke the alleged tech issue down:
The connector looks like it wouldn’t hit anything due to that are being recessed. But kids are going to fiddle with it or jam controllers on, etc. and that’s what will break it over time.
The convenience of the Switch and its Joy-Cons were always big selling points for Nintendo. It makes sense the company would continue to innovate on that design. As any gamer who remembers N64 controllers and their fragile thumbsticks knows, Nintendo isn’t above hardware problems. That said, considering the sales records of the original Switch, the Switch 2 seems all but guaranteed to fly off shelves, regardless of its other issues. Until we get our hands on the Switch 2 for some serious testing, allegations of problematic hardware remain just that. Maybe we’ll ask Yoshi to pack some pliers, just in case.
