No matter the context, once something is said, it can’t be taken back. Of course, people can attempt to clarify, apologize, or, in the case of Michigan actress Nicole Curtis, simply admit defeat. The HGTV star of Rehab Addict has been in showbiz for well over a decade, with her fame extending beyond just being a TV hostess. As an executive producer, she runs her own construction company, has written books, and appeared as a speaker for events like TEDx Talks. However, she’s now thrown that all into the bin because of one word: the racial slur with the hard “r.”
In a video which was initially obtained by Radar, 49-year-old Nicole Curtis was busily doing some interior construction work with her crew when she encountered an issue dealing with a metal wire. Within seconds, the Rehab Addict star sent her career down the drain by exclaiming “fart,” followed by the forbidden word that was said quite a lot of times in Django Unchained. It wasn’t long before the internet and HGTV caught wind of this incident, leading to her being fired and her whole show being taken down.
After so many years of a successful show and business, losing everything over one word is quite an unceremonious end for the now ex-star of Rehab Addict. Some claim it was accidental and that she meant to say “fart nuggets.” Others believe it to be something related to Tourette’s Syndrome. Yet, in the end, she said what she said, and there’s no use hiding it.
This Wasn’t the First Time Nicole Curtis Said the Word, the Internet Says
On the flip side, plenty of online commenters are certain that the racial slur was something she appeared to be rather accustomed to saying, based on how casually it was expressed. “For that to come out of her mouth, she must have been saying it at home a lot. Glad she got let go,” says a Redditor. “This ain’t her first racist rodeo,” agrees another. “Mistakes can happen but I don’t know anyone who has ever just casually used the hard R,” remarks a third.
Dozens of others chimed in, saying how they, too, never used a racial slur ‘by accident’ within the privacy of their own house. In other words, Nicole Curtis has presumably said this word before. Unfortunately for fans of the series, HGTV has removed the show in its entirety from all platforms, which is understandably the ideal move in this situation.
Several online users joke that the now former Rehab Addict hostess might have a future in the White House as a supportive politician or speaker for the current administration. “She’s qualified, which means she’s over-qualified for this administration,” one person chuckles. Another added that she could become the “Secretary for the Department of Housing.” Jokes aside, HGTV has been praised for doing the right thing, regardless of whehter Nicole Curtis’ racial slur was intentionally.
