It’s no secret that Illinois is reeling from ICE’s heightened activities in the area, so much so that it has negatively affected even Republicans. One worried Republican from Illinois fears for the future of his landscaping business because his workers are immigrants. Still, the Republican business owner doesn’t blame ICE; instead, he blames former US President Biden for letting in “so many people in.”
This peculiar thought process was shared by Reddit user wetmagician, whose uncle is the Republican landscaping business owner in question. The Reddit user posted an image of their uncle’s text messages to them, mentioning his woes about how ICE is affecting his business in Illinois.
“I see in the paper Ice is raiding landscapers looking for illegals. You had any masked agents stop by yet checking for papers?” asked the texter, presumably the Reddit user. Their Republican uncle then replied, “Ice is all over, my guys are nervous. Had my guy stay home a couple of days. 20 Ice agents on my street.”
At the end of the text message, and despite ICE’s involvement, the Republican uncle in question still claimed that, “Biden caused this by letting so many people in. They are overwhelmingly our social services.” It’s not clear how many workers he has, which ICE might deem as illegal, or whether or not they really are illegal immigrants, though it appears the business owner is either scared of losing valuable employees or somehow cares for the safety of his workers.
At the time of writing, there have been no additional updates from the Reddit user or their uncle’s landscaping business. ICE agents, meanwhile, are reportedly set to stay in Chicago, Illinois, for a couple more weeks before they move on to other states or cities.
People online are mocking the Republican business owner
The landscaping business owner in question isn’t exactly the first Trump voter ever to suffer from the policies of the person whom they voted for. However, his particular conclusion on who’s to blame has drawn the ire of many people online, while others scratch their heads at the thought process, simply because the Republican business owner was complaining about the surge of immigrants, which he benefited from.
Some Reddit commenters didn’t mince words and translated what the uncle technically meant: “‘It’s Biden’s fault that I was able to make money off of exploiting poor immigrants seeking a better life for their families.'” Another comment also said something similar, “‘If Biden hadn’t let me build a successful business with a low-cost labor force, we wouldn’t be in this mess.'”
Some people in the comment thread have sworn to cut off any MAGA-voting relative they have, especially those who have yet to be disillusioned with their vote. “ANY… and I do mean ANY blood relation that is MAGAtified has been cut out of my life and , added bonus, my 2 Near-Nazi [expletive] heel nephews were summarily cut out of my will also. Go see Fatass McPedophile for your ‘inheritance’,” claims one of the commenters.
