Respawn‘s Upcoming Event for Apex Legends Changes the Gameplay
Respawn Entertainment‘s System Override Event has the Apex Legends community hyped for a new game mode, the return of a classic, as well as a new body shield supposedly stronger than the shiny gold. The System Override Event will start on March 3 and run until March 17 and will change the game significantly for that period.
There is a lot of talk around two particular aspects of the event: the new game mode call Deja Loot and the new piece of equipment called the Evo Shield, both of these are going to affect how the players fight in the arena.
New 'Evo Shield' is coming to #ApexLegends 👀
But Respawn wants your feedback if it should be permanent 🤔https://t.co/dU3AQplucq

A fundamental feature of Apex Legends is the randomized locations of all the items in-game; it heightens the tension and helps to keep teams moving. However; the new Deja Loot mode assigns fixed locations for all the loot on the map during the event and will even fix the opening dropship on the same path (which will change daily). I think these new elements alone will change the gameplay immensely because it will make movement more predictable.
The Evo Shield is a new body shield that will get stronger as you cause more and more damage, starting out weaker than the basic white shield with the potential to become even stronger than the gold shield, and easily identifiable by its perpetual glow. Even more interesting is these characteristics will hold even if the Evo Shield is transferred between players which would make for a new dynamic for cooperation within a team. This new shield will change the game by incentivizing more combat initiation making an already competitive game much more so as well as more deadly.
King’s Canyon is also returning with System Override’s second week. We’ve dropped into King’s Canyon a few times since the move to World’s Edge with the Fight or Fright Event, the King’s Canyon After Dark Mode, and the most recent King’s Canyon Season 1 Mode where we went back to the first map as it was during the first season. All of our trips back to King’s Canyon have been met with nostalgic joy and veteran players will surely embrace their first again and again.
It’s anyone’s guess whether or not Respawn‘s gameplay changing event features will become permanent aspects of the game, only time (and raging backlash) will tell.
The strong will rise and the weak will perish with the System Override Collection Event.
Evolve your strategy in Deja Loot, a new limited-time mode, and experiment with the all-new Evo Shield. System Override begins Mar 3.
