When it comes to certain holidays and important dates, people tend to give them the proper time to enjoy the spotlight. However, that rule doesn’t seem to apply to certain retail stores. According to some disgruntled customers on Reddit, they have seen that some big supermarket chains have already started putting up Christmas decorations, taking out everything Halloween-related. The worst thing about it is that the spooky season isn’t here yet, which just makes retail stores seem a bit aggressive when it comes to “nudging” customers into buying way ahead of time.
While a lot of people like to do their holiday shopping ahead of time or get those decorations ready, some are not too happy about that.
For instance, the above Reddit post shows an alleged Walmart store full to the brim with Christmas decorations. As OP says, Halloween hasn’t even arrived yet, making this push for Christmas merchandise seem a little weird.
Yet, it doesn’t seem like something new. Several other people have commented about the same occurrence in supermarkets close to them, saying that retail stores just start putting up merchandise from a holiday that’s still several months away.
Again, while this isn’t an annoyance for many, some people think that certain events, such as Halloween in this case, deserve to have their time in the spotlight. Furthermore, some people haven’t had the opportunity to get ready for the spooky season, and now everything seems to be Christmas-oriented, even if we’re not close to that holiday yet.
Customers Think Retail Stores Should Slow Down a Bit
As expected, many people commented on the Reddit post, saying this retail “trend,” as some call it, should stop. Most customers believe next holiday merchandise shouldn’t appear until the current holiday is over, again using Halloween as an example.
“We had holiday items out in July at my local Walmart. Retail needs to slow down.”
Some, however, took a more lighthearted approach to this situation, making a few comments on how Christmas has already taken over Halloween.
“You must be confused. Halloween usually starts towards the middle/end of July.“
“Mariah Carey has breached containment.“

While not the biggest issue out there, some people are annoyed at the fact that Christmas is already flooding their stores. Even if purchasing all of these things isn’t mandatory, some also feel this is a tactic to get customers to spend more than they should and inflict the so-called FOMO on them.
