Fans of the original Jurassic Park movies may feel their age as the original “Jurassic Park,” which spawned a multi-billion dollar franchise, turns 30 years old this year. Old as it may be, the original movie is still incredibly re-watchable. Still, the same can’t necessarily be said for the video games that were created after the movie’s overwhelming success. Games like “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues”, which were originally released for vintage consoles like the NES and SNES, are somewhat harder to play these days – but fear not, nostalgic gamers, as Limited Run Games has hinted at a complete re-release in celebration of the franchise’s 30th birthday.
Released in 1993, the original “Jurassic Park” marked the first appearance of franchise mainstays Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Richard Attenborough, and Jeff Goldblum, among other names, and first introduced the world to the concept of a dinosaur-based theme park. The film itself made $978 million at the box office, has been re-released several times, and because of its popularity, almost immediately spawned several tie-in video games for the popular consoles of the time, like the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and the Game Boy. Released largely between 1993 and 2007, the list of “Jurassic Park”-inspired video games includes such titles as the original “Jurassic Park” game, “Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition” and “Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues”.
Limited Run Games Teases New Release for “Jurassic Park” Retro Games
Unfortunately, as the games grow older and more “retro,” it gets increasingly hard to play them on consoles that are hard – if not impossible – to use with modern technology. But fans of these classic “Jurassic Park” games may be in luck, as Limited Run Games recently put forth an announcement on Twitter, teasing fans with the ” Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Retro Collection”, which is supposed to be released later this year. According to Comicbook.com, it’s currently unclear whether the release means new games for the same consoles or updated games for more consoles. Still, Limited Run has promised to share more details on the re-released Jurassic Park collection at LGR3 in June. Obviously, the hope here would be for the older games to be updated for newer consoles like the PlayStation 5 or Xbox, which would make these retro games more accessible to modern audiences.
Hold on to your butts! The Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Retro Collection is planned for later this year!

Interestingly, the image included with the tweet only includes the NES, SNES, and Gameboy editions of the classic Jurassic Park video games, excluding the Sega Genesis and Game Gear editions; this is possibly due to those games being released by Sega rather than Ocean Software, which released the “Jurassic Park” games for Nintendo back in the ’90s. Ultimately, the only thing for excited fans to do now is wait until the Limited Games showcase this summer, where they’ll hopefully share more details on what the games’ re-release means for the Jurassic Park franchise.
What do you think about the possibility of the Jurassic Park games getting re-released? Do you have a favorite retro game you’re looking forward to replaying? Let us know in the comments!
