This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Each area in Return to Moria is unique and contains various enemies and bosses that you will need to defeat, and Lower Deeps is no exception. While exploring this location, you eventually reach the Great Drain Pumps, where you will meet Watcher in the Water, a powerful boss in Return to Moria, and next, we will tell you how to kill him. Standard weapons will be useless here, so you’ll need to be well-prepared for the fight. During the battle with the boss, in addition to Watcher, you will be attacked by his minions, so now you will learn how to avoid all obstacles and quickly complete this fight.

Watcher in the Water might be a pretty complex boss if you do not know some basic things that make this fight easier. And here are some tips to follow to kill the enemy:

  • Shoot in the eyes: The enemy’s weak point is his eyes. You’ll need to make 4 accurate shots to kill the boss. After each shot, the Watcher will hide under the water for a while, after which it will try to attack you with tentacles or summon Orcs.
  • Kill the Orcs: The Orcs are the boss’s minions, and they will distract you a lot. To avoid this, kill them while the boss is underwater.
  • Take a good position: A great trick is to go to the right-most part of the area. Orcs will not spawn here, and this will help to avoid unnecessary fights. In addition, you will take a higher position, which will allow you to better target the boss’s weaknesses.

By following these simple tricks, you can defeat Watcher in the Water and continue your journey. Now, let’s take a look at how to prepare for the battle correctly and what exactly you need to craft to simplify this boss fight.

So, the first thing to start with is to choose the right weapon because, for example, a regular bow and arrow will be useless here, not to mention melee weapons. The only way to kill the enemy is to use a long-range weapon, and there is only one suitable option for this, namely the First Age Crossbow. To craft it, you need to find 3 recipe fragments, each of which you can get by repairing statues while exploring the Lower Deeps.

When you do this, you can finally craft the First Age Crossbow. To accomplish this, you need the following resources:

  • Ruby x1
  • Silver Ingot x2
  • Natural Fibers x3
  • Ubasam Wood x8

All materials are straightforward to find, except for Ruby. This item can be more difficult to obtain, but if you explore The Darkest Deeps or open Orkish Chests, you can find it. So, when you have the weapon in your hands, you should also not forget about ammo. For the First Age Crossbow, you’ll need to make separate ammo, namely about 50 First Age Bolts to fight the boss. Here’s a recipe to create 15 First Age Bolts:

  • Silver Ingot x1
  • Ubasam Wood x10

The First Age Crossbow is not the only weapon you’ll need in battle, as Orcs will come to the aid of the boss. They’re not that difficult to deal with, so just choose the melee weapon you’re most comfortable with.

Also, don’t forget to stock up on food to restore your health in case you get attacked by a tentacle or just get hurt by Orcs. Following all these points, you can proceed to the boss battle.
