If I told you that in 2015 Leonardo DiCaprio still has not captured an Oscar, you would laugh in my face. DiCaprio has made blockbuster after blockbuster, including some of my personal favorites Gangs of New York, Blood Diamond, and Inception. No matter what role Leonardo has found himself in, he has the ability to demand the screen’s focus. Even during Django Unchained when DiCaprio only earned a finite amount of minutes, he still managed to become one of the most memorable characters of the movie.
Today, the trailer for The Revenant was released. After a couple of views, my optimism with DiCaprio possibly earning an Oscar is renewed. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu who won Oscar awards with his recent piece Birdman, the imagery on Revenant’s trailer is nothing short of breathtaking. Instead of using CGI that dominates today’s market, every shot looks breathtakingly real. I instantly connected some of the action shots to the last fight scene in Open Range. If The Revenant gives us a more action-packed version of the aforementioned western, the movie-going public will be in for a real treat.
Here is the description of the movie provided by 20th Century Fox (IMDB):
“Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT captures one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. Written by 20th Century Fox“
