A couple in Rhode Island paid $640 for a limited edition watch in praise of Trump but instead got a “Rump.” Trump supporter Tim Petit purchased the unique 1-of-250 watch from “gettrumpwatches.com,” where “Official Trump Watches” are allegedly sold. It was supposed to be a sweet gift for his wife, seeing how they are clearly admirers of the current US President. To their dismay, however, the luxury watch shipped to them was missing the “T” in Trump, causing the gilded label to read “RUMP.”
“How could they process this and go through something without checking their work?” Petit’s wife said sadly. “I’m very disappointed. I wanted to do a special thing for her. And we expected that it would have the integrity of the President of the United States and good follow-through,” the Rhode Island husband told NBC 10 News. Fortunately, the company eventually reached out to the couple, apologizing for the botch merch, and promised to send a replacement as well as offer $800 store credit. Needless to say, the internet is finding the tale of the RUMP watch hilarious.
“Oh those Chinese workers sure do have a sense of humor,” quips a Facebook user. “Oh, it DEFINITELY has the integrity of Donald Trump, lol. 😂” giggled a YouTube viewer. “lol – The T was tariffed,” added another. And, of course, Reddit was having a field day upon discovering the Rhode Island Trump supporters’ purchase. “This is such a perfectly on-brand idiotic move for anything Trump-related. Just perfect,” read a top comment. “That’s just Trump quality all the way!” agreed another.
The website that sells these so-called “Official Trump Watches” oddly says that its merch is not “designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals.” Instead, the watches are marketed and sold under a paid license agreement. Still, it’s a bit questionable to spend any amount of money, let alone $640, to buy any sort of merchandise for a country’s politician as if they were a celebrity.
