You never know what you’ll come across during a road trip. But if you saw a dog in need of rescuing, would you take them in? Absolutely. Who wouldn’t? Well, when one Rhode Island woman was traveling through Oklahoma, what she wasn’t expecting was a stray dog tailing her. The poor thing wasn’t alone, either. Tailing behind her were two puppies, and the entire dog family seemed to beg the woman for help.
TikTok user Nicole (TikTok/dope_kitchen) posted a video of herself cooing over a dog and her two pups. Seemingly unafraid, the dog mom came right over when Nicole called, with her puppies sticking close behind. Up close now, you can see the poor dogs are a tad filthy, but the mother has it the worst. “Are you okay?” Nicole says. The dog mom is all but skin and bones.
Despite their emaciated state, all the dogs seem happy to see Nicole. “They just came right up to me,” Nicole says in her TikTok video. But now she’s worried. She says, “I don’t have any [expletive] room in this car,” nor will they leave her side. The dog mom is sitting so close to Nicole, you’d think she was their owner. And so calm, too!
Nicole has a knack for packing vehicles full of travel gear; in fact, the reason she was struggling with room was because of that. “My car is overstuffed and I’m just trying to rearrange,” Nicole says, which she does successfully and is able to coax the dog into the passenger seat, with comfortable padding, too. Meanwhile, we get a close-up of a curious puppy before they too are lifted inside and on they go. “We made it work!” Nicole says, with a laugh.
People Really Want to Know if the Puppies Are A-Okay
Without a follow-up video in sight, people on TikTok are flooding Nicole’s comment section asking for an update. It was enough to make people admit they were tearing up at the sight of the poor mother and her rescue.
“The dog ‘thank god a white woman I’ve been walking all day!’ -probably,” joked one woman. Given how willing Nicole was at petting a random dog, she’s keeping that stereotype alive!
Another person commented on how comfortable the stray was, “The fact that at the end, mama just laid down, even rested her head, like she knew she was finally safe.”
One TikTok user was so proud of the dog mom, saying, “Those babies look so healthy and well fed – she was fading away but making sure they weren’t.” Other than needing a bath, they seemed in good spirits, too.
Some commenters were quick to condemn the previous owners. Nothing suggests that it was done in malice. Dogs do sometimes just go missing and they are known for finding a secluded spot for their pups.
But it’s also true that many people are quick to abandon their pets, dogs included. And if that’s what happened, one commenter said, “Whoever abandoned those angels deserves nothing in life.” What’s most important is that we get an update from Nicole ASAP or the social media will riot.
