Richard Dreyfuss‘ transphobic rant ahead of Pride Month was premeditated, a new video confirms. Last week, the Jaws actor attended a screening of the Steven Spielberg-directed film at The Cabot Theatre, in Beverly, MA. The icon made his appearance in a blue maxi floral dress, eventually switching it up for his conventional suit just before the Q&A section commenced.
Sadly, what began as a jolly show quickly morphed into a full-blown political rant. Richard Dreyfuss launched an outright attack on the LGBTQ community, made some anti-racist comments and also dropped heated statements considered misogynistic. His transphobic statements caused a stir among the audience, with many walking out midway through the interview.
Several guests who witnessed the interview took to social media to bash the actor’s “transphobic,” “racist” and “misogynistic” rant. Days later, a surfaced video confirmed Richard Dreyfuss thought things over before staging his mockery of the minority population, women and ultimately, Pride Month.
Richard Dreyfuss Gears Up for Transphobic Rants in New Video
The clip, shared by TMZ, shows the actor at the LGBTQ-friendly Massachussets-based store, Worthy Girl, trying on a handful of dresses before eventually settling on the blue floral one. Several enthusiastic staffers helped the icon make his pick, patiently fitting him into each one, oblivious to his intentions.
Richard tried on at least five different dresses in the video, all the while, maintaining a cheerful demeanor. About thirty minutes in, the actor left the store with his plus-size Torrid gown, which cost $20.99. What made Richard Dreyfuss’ shopping ahead of last month’s interview more curios was that he opted for a store with the LGBTQ community as its main clientele, and even displays the Pride flag in front of it.
Going on to rip off the same community in his transphobic rants just days later seems too coincidental. Even more so, Richard Dreyfuss attacked amid the global anticipation of June, widely recognized as Pride Month. While the actor’s reps are yet to comment on the video or his decision to patronize the store, Worthy Girl has frowned upon his transphobic rants.
Speaking to TMZ, one of the employees noted that Richard’s actions insulted their main clientele. They found it especially shocking because, during his time in the store, the staff fancied the 76-year-old as a “cute little old guy” trying on dresses, making them excited to help out. Although the deed had already been done, Worthy Girl hopes to make up for it in their little way. They are capitalizing on Richard Dreyfuss’ transphobic rants as an avenue to raise funds for the North Shore Alliance for GLBTQ+ Youth, via customized Pride shirts.
