A subway commute can be frustrating even when things aren’t going wrong. Footage released today by one New York TikToker shows what going wrong can look like. A rider fumbling with their motorcycle blocked foot traffic on the subway stairs in NYC, and it only got more awkward from there. The video shows the rider fumbling and fussing with their bike to get it up the subway’s steps and wrestling with their bike on uncooperative terrain. That’s something every rider has to deal with now and then. It’s just that most aren’t doing it on the stairs of a New York City subway.
Whether it’s subway motorcycles or comedians singing to cops, it feels like there’s always some weirdness going on. NYC, of course, is used to way, way weirder. One of the biggest issues with an out-of-place rider blocking the stairs? New York already has infrastructure problems aplenty without blocking the existing routes. In the case of this wandering rider and their fumbled bike, the crowd began to grow by the end, watching.
A TikTok by bellairkingtv showed how the whole awkward interaction played out, and viewers weren’t impressed with the rider’s decisions. “[T]here’s elevators at this station too,” said one commenter. If that’s the case, the entire incident was probably preventable, adding yet another layer of frustration. Another commenter decided to throw some random shade at NYC, saying,
This wouldn’t happen in Boston
While the Boston comment might be nonsense, infrastructure headaches are all too real. The NYC subway system also has bigger problems than a rogue motorcycle. Over-policing and other conditions have discouraged many New Yorkers from using the subways. While fumbling with your bike for a bit could happen to anyone, it’s probably better to happen elsewhere next time. Pizza Rat has places to be.
