There is no telling how anything one says on the internet would be received. Apparently, what most people would agree with easily did not go down so well because of the person who said it. In this case, Morgan Freeman’s inappropriate” past was revisited following his comments slamming Trump’s presidency.
A section of an interview where the American actor aired his opinions about the sitting president was posted on Reddit. “We have somebody sitting in the White House who’s leading us down a [expletive],” he shared bluntly. “I can’t understand how a convicted felon. Convicted, gets to be president. 34 counts of wrongdoing get to be president… it just doesn’t make sense to me,” the movie producer added. He argued that the ruling had been made before the president was sworn in, so it did not make any sense.
Backlash Follows Morgan Freeman’s Comments About Trump
The clip immediately attracted many negative reactions, not because netizens did not agree with what he had said, but because they considered his past a restriction. “Right message, wrong messenger,” one wrote. “Honestly asking, but why the wrong messenger?” a confused user asked. “Morgan Freeman was accused by multiple women of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior on movie sets and at his production company,” another responded.
“Why would I want to hear from someone who has been accused of sexual harassment?” a Redditor asked. Someone said, “He really thought we just forgot about all those allegations?” Despite the backlash, some users were not affected by the allegations. “Man, every messenger of this message is the right messenger. Especially if it gets in front of us,” one wrote. “Trying to make sense of modern America is just asking for a headache,” another noted.
The allegations that the netizens were referring to were from 2018. As reported by CNN, a production assistant alleged that she had endured several unwanted advances from Freeman. She claimed that he would place his hands on her lower back or rub it. It escalated to a point where he tried to lift her skirt in a certain incident, but his co-star made a comment that made him stop.
Other sources confirmed that the allegations made by the young production assistant were not a one-off incident but had happened on other movie sets. “He did comment on our bodies… We knew that if he was coming by … not to wear any top that would show our breasts, not to wear anything that would show our bottoms, meaning not wearing clothes that [were] fitted,” a senior member of the production staff of the “Now You See Me” movie shared. Freeman has since apologized, but insisted it wasn’t his intention to hurt anyone.
