Rihanna feels inclined to support her man, A$AP Rocky, amid his ongoing legal troubles, but many think it is the worst idea. The rapper is currently standing trial for his involvement in the 2021 shooting of A$AP Relli.
Earlier this month, the Praise the Lord artist pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, launching the start of a trial on Tuesday. Although his partner, Rihanna, wasn’t there for the start of the court proceedings, sources say she is “considering” showing up at the Los Angeles Court sometime this week.
Rihanna’s presence could significantly impact the trial. It could even give her partner a favorable outcome. TMZ reports that Barbados Beauty was brought up quite often during the jury selection process. Prospective jurors were questioned if they were fans or had ever bought any Fenty products. Basically, trying to eliminate bias. With Riri possibly showing up this week, things might be taken up a notch. “This week, Mr. Mayers’ significant other may appear here,” Rocky’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, told the judge.
Fans Urge Rihanna To Refuse Court Appearance & Focus On Kids
During the preliminary hearing, an argument ensued about the truth of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s relationship. The lovebirds, who have been an item romantically since 2020, are parents to two sons—RZA, two, and Riot Rose, one. Judge Mark S. Arnold of the Los Angeles County Superior Court questioned the pair’s marital status.
“Are they legally married?” the judge asked. Tacopina answered, saying he didn’t know but described Rihanna as A$AP’s “common-law wife.” He told the judge, “Just ‘wife’ is fine. However, you’d like.” Although Judge Arnold agreed to the label, Deputy District Attorney John Lewin objected, saying:
“If they are legally married anywhere, she will be his wife. If they are not legally married anywhere, she is his significant other.”
Recall that A$AP Rocky turned down a plea deal including 180 days in county jail, a suspended sentence, and probation. His lawyer argued that the Fashion Killa rapper only carried a “prop gun” and not a semiautomatic weapon. If found guilty by the jury, Rocky could face up to 24 years in prison.
Die-hard fans are worried about what having a felon as a baby daddy could do to Rihanna’s reputation. They are also concerned that her appearance in court speaks to her troubled past. Her tumultuous relationship with Chris Brown was often brought up.
“Thought this woman would have learned her lesson after Chris Brown… I really like Rihanna, and she doesn’t need this kind of danger in her life,” one fan advised. “He needs to be sent down so she can re-evaluate the future for her and her kids.”
“She sure knows how to pick em! Can’t understand why she doesn’t cast her net out further and wider,” slammed another fan.
“Rihanna can really pick those bad boys,” a third comment read.
Since A$AP Rocky’s legal troubles began, Rihanna hasn’t ever addressed it. Her recent support surely begs the question, “Why now?“
