Dolph Lundgren reminisced on how he battled cancer for eight years. The 65-year-old is famous for his roles in action movies, most recently his upcoming 2023 movie titled Wanted Man. Besides being an actor and filmmaker, Lundgren is also a trained martial artist. He was a bodyguard for the Jamaican singer Grace Jones.
Dolph Lundgren Talked His Battles With Cancer
The Missionary Man actor revealed that he has been battling cancer for the past eight years. The Swedish actor spoke about this while on In-depth With Graham Besinger. Lundgren said that he was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015.
He went into remission, but unfortunately, the cancer returned five years later, which was in 2020. The Silent Trigger star talked about how he discovered that he had cancer for the second time. He said he had acid reflux and did not know what it was. This made him go for an MRI, and the result showed a few more tumors in that area.
When the test result showed more tumors left, he knew it was something serious. The surgeon told him that the cancer had grown to the size of a small lemon. Lundgren then asked the surgeon how long he had left on the earth. The surgeon told him he could survive the illness for two to three years. However, the Rocky IV star said one could tell in his voice that he was unsure of his answer.
Lundgren Suspects That Steroid Use Caused His Illness
Per Daily Mail, the Men Of War actor used steroids to enhance his body build back in te 80s. Lundgren thinks that the steroid usage had an adverse impact on his health. He also said that the frequent use of steroids could have been responsible for his ailment.
The movie legend said he was really huge on steroids when he was younger. He added that there were times he was on steroids for ten years, depending on the movie he was shooting at the time. The Mechanik actor said he sometimes reflects on his youthful days and thinks he made some mistakes.
Dolph Lundgren added that there may have been a connection between testosterone therapy and cancer. His fiancee, Emma Krokdal, said Bensinger talked about the symptoms that came with the illness. She said that his mouth and hands got sore, and he could not eat, which made him lose weight.
