What is RWBY?
RWBY is an anime-style fighting series following Huntsmen and Huntresses in the world of Remnant. The evil Grimm threatens the people, therefore requiring defense teams to combat the threat. Created by animator/writer Monty Oum, the series gained major attention for its quirky characters and machinima action sequences. After premiering in 2013, RWBY amassed a great following that has continued to grow even after the passing of Oum in 2015. The series has also gone on to feature in video games and is now breaking into the comic book medium.
Due to its success, writer Marguerite Bennett (Batwoman) joins artist Mirka Andalfo (Wonder Woman) and colorist Arif Prianto (Deathstroke) to bring Remnant to digital comic format. Both media giants seem to be passionate about the project. Co-founder and CEO Matt Hullum of Rooster Teeth expressed his excitement at working with DC, saying “Connecting with DC….has been a dream come true”. Bennett states that RWBY “is the kind of story I wish passionately that I had growing up — magic, mayhem, monsters, and friendship between girls who grapple with real struggles and grow together to become stronger, brighter, kinder, and better”.
RWBY digital comics will release every other week, alternating with gen:LOCK, for two issues a month starting in September 2019. Artist and legend Jim Lee will be designing a special variant cover for the first issues of both titles. How do you feel about an RWBY digital comics?
