If you’ve ever worked in customer service, you’ve probably stated once or twice that you don’t get paid enough to deal with the insanity. This is exactly what happened to a woman working at a Ross store in Louisiana. While working, she was confronted by a customer who clearly wasn’t having the best day. When provoked, this worker showed the best way to handle any angry Karen – by walking away from the mess before it has a chance to get worse.
Monie (m0niebabe) was at a Ross store when she unexpectedly heard a Karen customer confronting a worker. She proceeded to record the interaction. The young worker stands there and takes tags off of the customer’s clothing while she’s being heavily berated. The customer gets in her face and says, “This is your job” while her friend intimidatingly stands next to her. She tells the worker she’s “corporate” and doesn’t “need” her job. Keep in mind: Apparently, all of this started because the “corporate” Karen was caught switching tags on clothing and got caught.
The Karen gets angrier and angrier, cursing at the worker until she decides she’s had enough. She lays down the clothing and walks away so that she doesn’t say something she may regret. She diffuses the situation in the best way but, no surprise, the angry customer keeps it going. Even while the worker disappears from view, the Karen says, “walk off” and screams, “Keep walking ‘cause you need your [expletive] job!”
In the end, the customer basically screams into space because the worker has had enough. She decided she’s not going to engage. Monie, on the other hand, says in the comments that she decided she wasn’t going to let this interaction happen without saying anything. Apparently, she confronted the Karen and told her they could take matters outside. She didn’t say if anything else happened after that.
Many commenters doubted that the belligerent customer actually works a corporate job if she was willing to risk it all. Other commenters were astounded by the fact that somebody would stoop to that level and treat an employee that way. One person commented, “No one deserves to be talked to like this.” Another applauded, “That young lady handled it well by walking away.”
