Russell Brand won’t be sitting in a jail cell during his ongoing sexual assault trial, to critics’ dismay. The TV personality has been accused by different women of scathing crimes involving rape and inappropriate conduct. However, the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star surprisingly made bail instead of being held in custody amid the case.
The comedian appeared at the Westminster magistrates’ court on Friday, looking confident in sunglasses, a black shirt, and black jeans. His bold aura might stem from having the same lawyer who successfully defended Kevin Spacey against sexual assault allegations in 2023. However, unlike the Oscar-winning actor’s case, Brand’s accusers were women.
One of the alleged victims told the court her unfortunate encounter with Brand occurred in Bournemouth in 1999. She noted the incident happened in a hotel room after a Labour Party Conference. Brand, per her claims, raped her after she returned from using the bathroom, as shared by The Telegraph.
Inside The Sexual Assault Allegations Against Russell Brand

Another alleged victim accused Brand of indecent assault, claiming he grabbed her by the forearm. She noted he did so in an attempt to drag her into a male toilet at a television station in 2001. The third accuser echoed similar tales of woe, recalling her 2004 encounter with the entertainer in SoHo.
The woman accused Brand of grabbing her breasts before pulling her into a toilet and orally raping her. The fourth alleged victim, a radio station worker, allegedly met the actor while he was working for Channel 4. Between 2004 and 2005, Brand worked with the network on Big Brother’s Big Mouth.
The final accuser claimed Brand grabbed her by the face with both hands and pushed her against a wall. She alleged he forcefully kissed her before grabbing her breasts and buttocks. Despite these allegations, the court granted the TV personality bail before his next hearing at the Old Bailey on May 30.
Critics Stunned by the Court’s Decision To Grant Russell Brand Bail

Brand’s bail left a bitter taste in the mouths of many, who believed he should remain in custody amid the trial. “WTF? Bail for Russell Brand, who stands accused of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault. He should be in prison awaiting his trial,” someone argued on X. Another echoed similar sentiments, noting the severity of the allegations against Brand should have stopped his bail.
A third claimed they were over the news, expressing their desire to see corrupt politicians and entertainers punished. An X user emphasized that people shouldn’t focus on Brand’s case because of the actor. “It should be about listening to women, taking abuse seriously, and confronting the dark truths hidden behind celebrity charm and public reinvention,” they wrote.
The criticism against Brand comes a month after he insisted on his innocence in a moving video. We covered the story, reporting he implored fans for their trust and understanding following the sexual assault allegations. In his post, the entertainer denied forcing himself on women, saying, “I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”
Could Russell Brand’s bail victory signify more to come, or will he lose this legal battle?
