Fans of the Saints Row series haven’t had a whole lot to look forward to as of late, as the last mainline entry in the franchise came eight years ago. Since then, there have been rumors left and right regarding what the eventual next installment would bring, let alone what that would entail. Many would likely assume that the series has been shelved indefinitely with how long it’s been. At Gamescom 2021 today, Volition Studios unveiled the next installment in the Saints Row franchise, taking the shape of a reboot. The title will release on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms on February 25, 2022!
The description of the Gamescom 2021 trailer above describes Saints Row as follows:
In a world rife with crime, where lawless factions fight for power, a group of young friends embark on their own criminal venture, as they rise to the top in their bid to become Self Made. Experience the biggest and best Saints Row playground ever created; the unique sprawling world of Santo Ileso is the backdrop for a wild, larger than life sandbox of thrilling side hustles, criminal ventures and blockbuster missions, as you shoot, drive, and wingsuit your way to the top.”
For those curious about how this relates to the other Saints Row games, needless to say, there’s very little. The premise much remains the same though. Alongside Neenah, Kevin, and Eli (characters shown in the trailer), you’ll work to form the Saints, taking on various hostile gangs in hopes of gaining control of the city. And while you may be cleaning up crime by doing this, make no mistake. You’re here to start an empire, one built entirely on crime.
