A role can tie an actor down for years. In an interview with GQ, Salma Hayek talked about being typecast after her sexy vampire role in From Dusk Till Dawn. While she is in a strong place away from that in her career, she looked back on what projects and roles she received after the 1996 film with George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino.
The scene in question saw Clooney, Tarantino, Harvey Kartel, and Juliette Lewis enter the truck stop. At one point, as they drink and hang out before the bloodshed and action as everyone turns into vampires, Salma Hayek dances in a bikini with a snake, leading to her being typecast for more sexy roles.
“It was a really small part, but to my surprise, people really remember that moment,” she said. “The types of roles that people offered me did not change at all. I really struggled, and I thought that was going to change, but no.”

Now at 56 years old, Salma Hayek said she is “laughing” now that she distanced herself from being typecast to be in “every genre” that she was previously told “would have expired” by the time she was at this point in her life. In recent years, she has been in all sorts of films, like House of Gucci, Eternals, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and more. Other notable roles for her include her Oscar-nominated role in Frida, Desperado, Wild Wild West, and when she reteamed with Rodriguez for Spy Kids 3: Game Over.
The vampire is a cult classic that spawned a series and sequels. Robert Rodriguez directed the film from a script written by Tarantino. Along with the previously mentioned stars, it featured Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Tom Savini, Fred Williamson, and more.
The Eternals star has quite a few projects lined up. Next up, she will star in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which releases on February 10. She will also star in the war drama Without Blood by Angelina Jolie.
