Today’s the day. Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time finally released worldwide today. The game is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (both Steam and Epic Games Store) for $39.99. Although developed as a spin-off, Battle Through Time story is written by season five‘s head writer Darrick Bachman and carefully integrated with the series finale. Bringing along the original casts including Phil LaMarr and John DiMaggio. Trapped by Aku in an alternate timeline during their final confrontation, Jack has to team up with his closest allies to go back to the past (again) and save the future.
The developer, Soleil Games, is made up of ex-Team Ninja, known for their works on classic stylish action Ninja Gaiden series as well as Dead or Alive. Before this, Soleil Games worked on the recently released Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Strikers.
Made for series and action games fans alike, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time features fast-paced gameplay with a variety of skills and weapons; from Jack’s signature katana, hand-to-hand combos, bow, giant mace, and even machine guns. Although it’s not as deep as Ghost of Tsushima or Nioh, the game looks like it still delivers interesting combo-based combat mechanics for you to play around with. Plus, you have to be careful with your weapons — they can break over time. Fortunately, you can fix them in Da Samurai shop for a fee. Then the ‘Samurai Jack experience’ is topped with stylized 3D visuals and the series’ renowned blend of humor and drama throughout the story.
Outside of consoles and PC, the game is also available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac through Apple Arcade, co-developed by Spanish-based developer Novarama Technology SL (Invizimals, Reality Fighters).
