During this year’s unique San Diego Comic-Con@Home, Lucasfilm’s panel shared a great deal of Star Wars news and announcements. The panel consisted of big names such as Alyssa Wong from Marvel’s Doctor Aphra, Timothy Zahn of Thrawn Ascendency: Chaos Rising, Rebecca Roanhorse of The Clone Wars: Stories of Light & Dark, and many others.
The Lightsaber Collection was one of the largest announcements. This new book details the history and design of lightsabers throughout the movies and the expanded universe. Every Star Wars fan knows that lightsaber design is extremely personal and is a reflection of each character. Top professionals of the industry have crafted these props for decades. It is exciting to see it all memorialized in this way.
If you are a fan of the spookier side of Star Wars, then you will very much enjoy the return of the comic Vader’s Castle. This new one-shot, dubbed Shadow of Vader’s Castle, is from IDW. That isn’t the only news from IDW. They are also rebooting Star Wars Adventures during a new period with new creators.
Star Wars: Myths & Fables returns with six new stories from George Mann. It will feature stories from the worlds of Batuu, Endor, Dathomir, and Mon Cala.
Other announcements include a concept art book for Batuu from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. A new novel titled The High Republic: A Test of Courage features an ancestor of Sana Starros. A new children’s novel called A Jedi, You Will Be teaches Yoda’s lessons to younger readers. A new Darth Vader comic series will dig deeply into the character. Writer Greg Pak stated:
But when you dig into [Vader being rejected by Luke in Empire Strikes Back], you realize Vader himself is as traumatized as Luke is in that moment. And that moment is echoed purposefully multiple times throughout the series . . . [We] dig into some great unexplored territory and also dig deeply into the heart of Vader.
